Tag you're it - 6 things about me

I just got tagged by Living My Rich Life and was in the mood to share the love. So here are a few things most people don't know about me:
  1. I named my dog after myself. I was born "Heather Lee" and my sweet little pooch's name is "Kelsey Lee." Corny, but I love her!
  2. When I lived in Indiana, I ran a cake decorating business out of my house for birthdays, weddings, etc. I called it "Heather's Novelty Cakes" (yeah, real original, I know) and did quite a booming business while I lived there. I even had business cards printed at one point. My biggest problem? I never charged enough. I'm not good at taking people's money. Go figure.
  3. I learned to crochet when I lived in Atlanta. A friend taught me right before I had knee surgery so I won't go completely bonkers while I healed (let's just say I don't sit still well). So I make lots of baby blankets now, but I only know one stitch. A little boring but at least the world is full of lots of colors, so each blanket is a little different.
  4. I speak a little Greek. I close friend of mine (we also dated for about 5-1/2 years) is from Athens and I picked up quite a lot while trying to communicate with his family. I still remember some of it. I always loved the language, not only because it's beautiful, but because it's so different from what everyone else learns.
  5. I've visited 12 countries (some multiple times) in the last 10 years: China, England, France, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, Germany, Holland, Greece, and Canada. Lame that I live in Texas, but I've never been to Mexico, huh?
  6. I majored in French in college. Yeah, you can't do much with that, but I REALLY wanted to graduate and get on with life. I've lost much of it, unfortunately. It really is true - use it or lose it!
Now it's your turn. I'm tagging...

Ok, but I'm going to cheat. (I always do on memes.) I'm going to do it on the McDougalling blog.

Cool. Thanks for playing. I love finding out those quirky things about people. Sounds like you are a real traveller and I admire your propensity for languages. I really wish I could pick them up. Alas I've been trying to learn Spanish for 18 months and seem to be forgetting more than I'm learning.

livingmyrichlife - my biggest problem with languages is I can only fit one foreign language in my brain at a time. When i'm trying to speak greek, all I can think of is french and vice versa.

Then there's the time I was in Paris and I was trying to order some sandwiches. I was telling the lady what I wanted and at some point during the conversation I switched from French to Greek. The waitress was looking at me funny and finally my friend tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out that I was no longer speaking French. Oops!

This was so fun! I'm doing it to but not tagging anyone.

I wanted to visit Mexico again but there is something going on with gang and drug wars so I stayed out.

I might be going into business for myself soon and I hope I have the nerve to ask people to pay me when due, its my weak point.

beany - what kind of business? I would love to write a book one of these day, but I don't know where to start. That's kind of the catch, isn't it?

I don't know enough people to tag on here but here are six things you don't know about me:
1 I speak enough Spanish to pretty much converse in it after a few years in high school. I actually have friends who do not speak English and I even took a year of Latin and tried to take Russian but dropped it my senior year of h.s. I wanted to take it because we were in the Cold War but it was more than I could handle at the time.
2 I gave up on going to college because I had no money after my parents spent the SSI money (ironically on my sister's legal defense supposedly because she babysat kids and was accused of molesting the little boys--an absurd accusation but people are in it for money, not honor or truth--that I should have received(my senior year of high school was in a children's home in Dallas) and the scholarships for kids of vets dropped off right before me. I had no money, I went to work instead of college.
3 I graduated hs with high honors and should have been set to be college bound but my parents took my money and I had to move to Dallas my senior year of hs because my parents moved a boy into my room with me and I couldn't take the hurt or the forced relationship so I moved on-to Dallas. Parents on drugs-go figure. Might be why I don't do drugs.
4 As a result, I have sisters that aren't my sisters. Paula is black, Karla and Theresa are white, Sandra is Mexican. Four of my sisters are from Ethiopia, they are black and they are my sisters too. We learned a lot in that year, but they will forever be in my heart-Yalem, Gwen, Beth and Sophie.
5 It kills me every time I see an empty field- or dewberry patch turn into another new business.
6 I have faith beyond any common sense that things will work out and everything will be alright--no matter what.
