Now, for the most important decision of all time - what do we name this newest little addition to the SGF household? We've decided we're leaving it up to you to name her - or is it a him?
Make suggestions (more than one if you like) for the name of our new car in the comments section by Friday, August 29. We'll pick out our favorite one and the winner will receive their choice of one of my homemade jams (blackberry, strawberry or peach).
I can hardly wait to see what everyone comes up with...

Ooooh, she definitely looks like an Elpheba to me!
It's hard to tell in the pix - is it black or dark blue? I think Black Beauty would be perfect!
I named my VW Beetle Emily when I got her. How about Emily? You could go for my husband's name of my car - Taquito!
Michael is also a good solid name. It has a nice dependable sound to it and dependable is a good thing in a car.
Are you sure you want someone else naming your car? I always felt that a car would reveal its name to you once you got to know it and enjoy it. Not every car I have owned has revealed their name to me... but most have.
Congrats!
It's here, it's here! So exciting! At least this baby isn't going to keep you up all night with feedings and poopy pants. ;o)
hhhhmmm, I will have to think on a name and get back to you...
Congrats!
How about "Peanut"? Or is that only a Southern-only nickname? Anyway, she's so cute! Hope you enjoy the new car!
Isn't this your next-to-last-day at work?!
burbanmom - Do you know other Elphebas? :)
bobbi - the car is black
billie - you know this is funny, but it has a phone book in the computer and the only name in there was "Michael." As far as someone else naming our car, I had a few names in mind myself, but I name everything. I think it'll be fun to get other suggestions. My last car (a blue lumina) I named myself after many years. Her name was "Patchy" because she can so many mismatched junkyard parts. We can always give her a second nickname later, but Patchy was 10 years old before she got that name :)
Academic - thanks!
eco 'burban mom - be creative and have fun with this. I thought of some myself but I want to see what everyone else comes up with first :)
green resolutions - great name and yes, this is my next to last day of work. Thanks for remembering! I'm very excited about tomorrow. I'm making some cookies to give to my boss.
I like Dhara for a girl meaning "planet earth". THis will be an additional reminder as to why you have this car. FOr a boy I love George meaning "earth worker" as a reminder that it does sometimes take extra work to do the right thing to be green. HTH, Brandi
All I've got today is Jammy Dodger..... but I'll be back tomorrow!
And if you name her Elphie, can you please dress up like Galinda and post a video of you with the car singing "Defying Gravity"??
How about Penelope? Penelope Prius. My car is named Rhonda Honda, named after a friend's long deceased car. Or Patty, Penny, Patrick, Pat,Petey, Peter. Enjoy it!
I vote for Tellus, Latin for Earth. But I love Dhara too...good one. How long did it take to receive it? We want one too. Enjoy!!!
I vote for Purdy the Prius. Purdy as in pretty. That's purdy. You know what I'm saying right? Maybe I just talk funny...
Polly Prius =)
Yay for getting your Prius!!! Did it take as long as they said it would? Seems like the time went by fast!
Very exciting about tomorrow . . . I've always enjoyed my last day of work, no matter where that last day was -- it's the signal of something new about to happen in one's life =).
Ah ha! The whole "Elpheba" thing makes sense to me now. Dave and I looked it up and saw that it's from a book made musical. Actually, it looks pretty good. I might just have to get the book from the library.
Anyway...
latte-n-libre - ooh. I do like Dhara. I love the earthy names!
ib mommy - he he! When I first saw your comment, I knew I was missing something from burbanmom's comment. I've been watching "Wicked" clips on uTube all morning :)
bobbi - ooh! Keep 'em coming. Lots to choose from :)
ellen - I agree. The earthy names are cool considering what we're trying to accomplish by getting the car. And Dave and I both feel that the car is a girl at this point. As far as how long it took to get it...
We put our name on the list on Jul 3. We got a call within 2 weeks, but it wasn't one of the colors we wanted so we passed. In passing on that round, it put us 2nd to the top of the list for the next delivery.
Last week we got a call saying they'd get more cars by the end of August or first week of September (and in a color we wanted) so we put it on reserve to come in and look at it when it came in.
But, out of the blue, we got a call on Tuesday saying that an upgraded model (the Prius Touring) was available. It's a a demo so it already had almost 10K miles on it, but because of that, it was cheaper and had WAY more features than the one we had coming in September. After driving it, we told them we wanted it. And the rest is history. All in all it took just over a month. I understand that in Dallas the waiting list is 6 months!
dramamama - that's cute too! I know exactly what you mean. We're in Texas, after all :)
glenda - it did go by very fast. We didn't have to wait long at all! Thanks for the well wishes about my last day. I'm super excited about all the opportunities that are sure to come my way as I start to change focus. Who knows what my life has in store for me, but I'll bet it's good! :)
It looks like an Odin to me. Tiny cars need powerful names to scare off all those Hummers on the road. No one messes with an Odin.
"Dobber," as in the all black little dirt dobbers seen in TX.
bertha.
all the suggestions are far better than I could come up with. Congrats.
I like Dhara, but I think you should make it Dharma (like "Dharma and Greg" - that show that was on a while back) - shewas a great, witty, inspirational and fun earthy character!
organic needle - nice name! Odin. Hmmm...
timeus - thanks!
kelly - unfortunately, Bertha has already been taken by the pressure canner. Keep 'em coming!
joan - I've leaving this open for a couple weeks. If you think of something, stop back by and leave a comment.
michelle - I LOVED that show and I like the idea of having a buddhist type name.
green bean - :) I've only driven it once (test drive) and really liked it. I'll probably drive it for the first time (without anyone else in the car that is) tomorrow. It's very exciting!
Sorry, too many typos in the previous comment!
OK, don't laugh. How about Little Black Hybrid?
In my family, we usually use three names that describe the vehicle. It all started with my dad's dump truck when we were little, which we named the Big Red Ride, followed by Big Blue Dumpy. My car is now called Little White Rusty. Sometimes also referred to as Crappy White Rusty.
Emerson! I had a turtle named Emerson once, and this guy has the same type of look about him - sleek, practical, and with a lot of endurance :)
abbie - Big blue dumpy? I love it! he he
theresa - what a nice name!
Thanks everyone! Keep all those suggestions coming. We won't make a decision until the end of the month...
O.k., here goes!
Skimpy- embrace your frugal side of fuel savings
Nanna - Celtic goddess of flowers and plants
Have fun with your new addition. Shan
Going Crunchy - great names! Thanks!
Gia - earth goddess
Rachel - Rachel Carson
Elissa
Gia - earth goddess
Rachel - for Rachel Carson
Elissa
more to come
Jenelle - good ones! Do keep them coming!
Penny Prius! "A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned"
Terra, because that is just kindda the point.
Kim and Ttammylynn - both great names! Penny seems to be a popular one. Dave and I will go over names on Friday so keep 'em coming if you think of them. :) Thanks!
You know, I've had the chance to drive her a couple times and it really is a nice little car. I'm pleased (and I'm not much of a car person).
