I promise never to complain about my electric bill again

I do. I promise. Never again.

Just this morning, I posted about how our utility bill went up this last month. Well, last night our AC went kaput. Sleeping last night wasn't too bad since we had air running for most of yesterday to keep the house cool, but it's been out now for almost 24 hours and it's now, let's see...

86 degrees inside the house!

As I write this it's 91 degrees outside with 47% humidity, so it won't do much good to open the windows. Looks like we won't be sleeping tonight.

The "kids" have been laying around, but seem to be ok. I have a serious headache, and probably need to get out but I feel bad leaving them in this oven. Of course it also means I've been grazing in front of the fridge all day (part of it misery, part of it trying to get the cool air). I suppose I'd have been better off stuffing the frozen pancakes down my shirt instead of down my throat. Blah. Keep your fingers crossed that the fix-it guy gets the part tomorrow....

Stick a sock filled with some rice in the freezer, and you can use it as a cold pack tonight.

I live in an unairconditioned apartment. Our fan is a lifesaver, but for the non-electric option, you can't beat a wet (ack...more water) washcloth around your neck.

Great tips. Thanks! We're currently camped out on the couch with a ceiling fan above us and a box fan with a tray of ice in front of us. So far so good...

Oh no! We technically have AC in our apartment, but it's a window AC which means that when it is on, one room is an icebox the rest of the apartment is still boiling hot, so we tend not to run it unless it is very hot.

I second what Lauren says, fans have been a life saver for us. Brett is really good with getting the whole 'maximum air flow' thing right.

And the wash cloth is a great idea!

Oooh, HOT! I can not stand the heat. Which is why I live in a state that often sees snowfall in May. When it's above 80 in the house, I get frantic and sit directly in front of a fan. I feel your pain, girl, I feel it! Try to stay cool and dream about the fix-it guy. But not in THAT way of course. In the riding up on a white horse bringing a box of parts way! :o)

My knight just arrived! It's 4:00 PM here and he just got it fixed. Pshew!

We managed to get it down to 83 degrees by midnight last night. We slept fitfully, but at least slept some. It was 86 degrees in the house by midday. I've been sitting in front of and underneath fans. If you move outside of the circulation area, it's instant blah so I haven't moved much all day. But it's almost over. I'm anxious to see that number drop now. Come on...come on...
